SEA FISHING

For anyone unfamiliar with the site always check the FRESHWATER, SALTWATER and TACK-TICS pages. The Saltwater page now extends back as a record of over several years of (mostly) sea fishing and may be a useful guide as to when to fish. The Freshwater stuff is also up to date now. I keep adding to both. These pages are effectively my diary and the latest will usually be about fishing in the previous day or two. As you see I also add the odd piece from my friends and correspondents if I've not been doing much. The Tactics pages which are chiefly 'how I do it' plus a bit of science are also updated regularly and (I think) worth a read (the earlier ones are mostly tackle and 'how to do it' stuff).

More mullet and bass.

After our moderately successful fly fishing trip the other evening Nigel and I decided to give it another go. sure enough the mullet once more turned up in force. If anything they were more numerous than on the previous session but still they were reluctant to bite. We fiddled about with the flies and I tried a little Delta in hopes of a bass but eventually I caught a mullet on the Delta before Nigel wandered back from a bit further along to say that he'd had three school bass on the maggot fly. Shortly afterwards I reverted to a maggot fly myself and promptly had a decent mullet. We hung on until quite late but still struggled for bites until eventually I switched back to my Delta and caught a small but extremely feisty bass.

Basically that was it. However, I hear from our pal Richard that he went down to the same spot the following evening. The mullet this time were much less abundant but, by slinging in a mass of maggoty weed, he induced them to feed in a tight group and had several decent fish on the maggot fly in short order. Well done Richard!

Nice mullet on a Delta.

It has a couple of loose scales after being beached.

Nigel.

Flogging away for his catch of small bass.

My second mullet.

Well hooked in the 'vulcanised' top lip..

My late bass.

With the Delta still in its mouth. Small but it fought like stink on the fly gear.
